dogexam.jpgWe generally recommend core vaccines for most pets to protect them from common diseases. Additional vaccines may be recommended for pets in unique circumstances or with specific needs. We will consider your pet’s risk of exposure to various preventable diseases through lifestyle issues such as extensive travel or competition, and high exposure to other animals at places like kennels and dog parks. Armed with this information, we tailor a vaccination schedule specific to your pet.

Dogs

We may recommend these types of canine vaccines:

  • Distemper/Adenovirus/ Parvovirus (DAP)—3 year vaccine
  • Rabies—3-year vaccine
  • Bordetella (Kennel Cough)— Annually, as needed based on requirements of kennel or other high exposure environments
  • Canine Influenza—As needed based on high exposure environments, and recommended annually for greyhounds, and brachycephalic dogs
  • Leptospirosis—Not recommended unless at risk for high exposure to livestock, or wildlife (annually)

Puppy Series

A typical series of puppy vaccines may include:

  • DAP—Start at 6-8 weeks, then a booster every 3-4 weeks, at least three doses
  • Rabies—After 12 weeks
  • Canine Influenza—After 6 weeks, then a booster 2-4 weeks later, as needed based on high exposure environments, and recommended annually for greyhounds, and brachycephalic dogs
  • Leptospirosis—After 12 weeks, then a booster 2-4 weeks later, if puppy has high exposure to livestock

Cats

We may recommend these types of feline vaccines:

  • Feline Distemper / Upper respiratory (FVRCP)—3-year vaccine
  • Rabies—Annually
  • Feline Leukemia (FeLv)—Annually, as needed if your cat goes outdoors

Kitten Series

A typical series of kitten vaccines may include:

  • FVRCP—Start at 6 weeks, then a booster every 3-4 weeks, at least three doses
  • Rabies—At 14-16 weeks
  • FeLv—If the kitten goes outside, at 8-9 weeks—never earlier!—then booster 4 weeks later

If you board your animal, you will usually be required to produce up-to-date vaccination records. We recommend keeping these records handy in order to avoid any last minute confusion.
